Senior Insurance Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior insurance officer, with a solid background and career in the insurance industry to date, to join the Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning (DELWP). The role provides general advice and service on the department’s general insurance program to DELWP’s staff and key external stakeholders. Additionally, the role will involve the management of DELWP’s property claims and oversight of liability matters.

We are seeking a candidate who has extensive general insurance policy knowledge and is adept at overseeing and managing claims. Your solid breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in the insurance industry means you have well-honed communication skills – both written and verbal.

You possibly have come from a background where you have had client contact and had success in resolving claims through engagement with internal customers and insurers directly.

You will need to be able to explain insurance concepts to a wide audience and prepare reports that engage management around DELWP's insurance profile, claims and risk issues. You will work closely with DELWP's six functional groups to support the delivery of policy initiatives, programs and operations to the Victorian community and play a key part in mitigating risks for government.

We anticipate the successful candidate to gain familiarity of DELWP policies over time and therefore we are seeking someone who is an avid learner and not afraid to be temporarily out of their comfort zone and engage in a steep learning curve, for a short while.

Building relationships with others is natural for you and you manage all conversations with ease - as you navigate complex issues, expectations and the general demands and priorities of the role. You are an active listener and know how to appropriately respond under any given situation.

Your work style naturally lends itself to contributing to an inclusive and team-oriented workplace culture that is busy and fun. You are focussed, collaborative, professional and engaged in your work and the insurance industry. You can juggle a variety of cases at any one time and you want to be a part of a high performing team that you have contributed to.

This role will suit a person who comes to work, rolls up their sleeves and is happy to respond to the work that comes in on their desk and adaptable to the team’s needs. No two days are the same. We won’t shy away from saying we need hard working, flexible colleagues who can roll with the ebb and flow of the workload and have volumes of emotional intelligence as you apply your knowledge to interesting and different insurance cases.
