Actuarial Manager - Commercial Lines

We are currently looking for a full-time Actuarial Manager based in our Sydney CBD office, reporting to the Head of Actuarial New Zealand and the Pacific. The opportunity:                                                            

You will be joining QBE during an exciting period of our evolution. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to support the Commercial Lines portfolios in a number of reserving and pricing activities. You will play a pivotal role at QBE in managing these portfolios.

  • Manage the complete valuation process that includes all related financial disclosure requirements and is appropriate for the relevant valuation; defining project scope and requirements and managing performance against plans
  • Maintain quality controls throughout the valuation process
  • Continuously improve the valuation model and process while ensuring relevance
  • Document changes to calculations and procedures in a timely and clear manner
  • Develop new monitoring and ad-hoc reports as required
  • Manage pricing projects to ensure timely delivery
  • Know and apply all relevant standard actuarial reserving models, including their common variants, and pricing and rating techniques
  • Demonstrate understanding of the impact of pricing changes on product and profit
  • Perform technical and peer reviews of reserving models used by others, explaining results clearly and suggesting improvements.

 What does success look like?

  • Knowledge of the application of all standard actuarial techniques used in general insurance
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and extrapolate data from a number of sources and resolve complex issue
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, complicated concepts in a simple, professional manner
  • Proficiency in the commonly used actuarial software packages
  • Qualified Actuary, or nearing qualification, with the IA of Australia or other equivalent qualification
  • Degree in Mathematically focused area.
