AIG’s underwriters help to find insurance solutions for risks from a range of areas including life insurance, aviation, financial lines, casualty, environmental, catastrophic events, high net worth individuals, and boardroom liabilities.

Reporting to the Group Personal Insurance Head, you will be responsible for the sale, underwriting and administration of Personal Accident (PA) Group business within a prescribed geographic location; Identification, qualification, development and improvement of PA product administration and service opportunities and achieve all financial objectives relative to revenue growth, profitability and expense management.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities

  • Establish/maintain strong distribution channel relationships including broker relationships from director to broker level with indigenous and international broking firms:
    • Visit brokers in accordance with a visitation schedule
    • Prepare broker visitation report that list issues discussed and document follow up action
    • Represent AIG in a professional manner at all times
  • Support major and/or target accounts and implement action plans in relation to new business opportunities and portfolio retention
  • Underwriting group PA, corporate travel and specialty minor lines including new and renewal business within authorities granted
  • Maintain underwriting standards within the terms of your underwriting authority and adhere to applicable guidelines
  • Analysis of own portfolio:
    • Identification of problematic accounts
    • Identification of problematic industries and classes
    • Identification of underperforming distribution channels or brokers
    • Implementation of all remedial action that may be required
  • Administration:
    • Maintain an activity register and send renewal invitations to brokers, follow up and reconcile closings, prepare and ensure premium bookings are processed in accordance with budget requirements, maintain all relevant databases
    • Timely collection and preparation of data used by the Personal Accident Product Head to complete monthly production reports
    • Responsibility for quality and accuracy of administrative data and documentation
    • Ensure the provision renewal invitations to brokers for your portfolio in accordance with service standards
    • Ensure accuracy of booking sheets to be processed into GOALS system
    • In conjunction with the Operations team, ensure any unallocated cash and debtors items within timeframes outlined by finance
    • Manage broker account queries as appropriate
  • Compliance with national and international travel requests as is necessary and other HR policies as required by the company

What we are looking for

  • Strong experience in underwriting Personal Accident Group business (preferred) or other commercial insurance context
  • Understanding of insurance processes
  • Proven business development and sales skills
  • The ability to read customer needs and develop plans around those needs
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to business challenges
  • Able to present a compelling clear argument
  • Action-oriented, demonstrates a drive to succeed in the marketplace
