Senior Casualty Underwriter - Major Accounts, Construction & Energy

Key accountabilities/responsibilities

  • To maintain and grow the Major Accounts, Construction & Energy casualty book in Western Australia and the Northern Territory
  • Particular focus on renewal retention, new business generation, policy administration services, maintaining technical compliance with AIG casualty guidelines and appetite, maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, for business generated in Australia within delegated underwriting authority
  • Maintaining and enhancing the reputation of AIG in the local Perth market by way of working closely in conjunction with the local management and team members
  • Achieving agreed production targets by establishing strategic marketing objectives and action plans with key broker partners
  • Increase market share through the development of relationships with key producers, clients and industry groups
  • Provide timely production and portfolio reports to various stakeholders.

Financial:

  • Execute the business’ strategic plans to ensure budgets are met at both branch and national level
  • Work in conjunction with the Casualty Manager – Major Accounts, Construction & Energy as well as branch management, client and broker engagement team and other profit centres to grow the Major Accounts, Construction & Energy portfolio of our business
  • Provide superior service to offer a differentiated alternative in this very competitive sector of the market
  • Monitoring and reporting of monthly production, retention ratios, new business, hit rates, loss ratio, claims activity, overdue premiums and late bookings
  • Identify new business prospects and targets.

Customer:

  • Development of client relationships both individually and in conjunction with department management, segment managers and casualty team members
  • Ensure the maintenance/development of solid working relationships with all supportive brokers within the Perth market
  • Identification of business opportunities for other profit centres to support the company's cross marketing strategy
  • Liaise with administration staff, actuarial, legal, claims, finance and accounting and any other service centres to ensure awareness of underwriting and business activities support standards required
  • Open communication and information sharing with segment managers pertaining to casualty.

What we are looking for

  • An extensive proven background in casualty underwriting across a broad range of products including primary casualty, excess/umbrella
  • Entrepreneurial and solution-based approach to underwriting
  • High degree of technical underwriting capability and attention to detail
  • High degree of professional and personal integrity
  • Good situational, strategic and tactical awareness pertaining to business
  • Team player with specific attention to inclusiveness and shared success
  • Past experience underwriting risks in the construction and energy industries
  • Proven working relationship with key broking partners
  • ANZIIF Senior Associate level qualification and Certified Insurance Professional
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, combined with the ability to influence people
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.
