The opportunity:

We are currently seeking to appoint an Actuarial Analyst to join the Group Actuarial team in Sydney. We are a relatively small team of actuaries from a diverse range of backgrounds and we are looking for a motivated, responsible and high performing team member. The type of actuarial experience gained by the candidate is not as important as the knowledge of application of standard actuarial techniques, ability to work independently and ability to communicate verbally and in writing complicated concepts in a simple and professional manner. Good knowledge of the insurance industry and regulatory framework will be looked at favourably


This role is responsible for managing ongoing Group Actuarial tasks and assists the Group Chief Actuary with developing, managing and delivering actuarial projects to meet QBE Group’s business needs and strategic initiatives.

  • Develop, maintain and validate Group Actuarial systems, data, reporting and procedures to ensure that these are aligned with statutory requirement and business needs and fit for purpose
  • Assist in continually developing the actuarial function to ensure its delivery and services best meet business needs
  • Participate as required in quarterly reporting process that includes all related financial disclosure requirements
  • Document changes to calculations and procedures in a timely and clear manner
  • Participate in “deep dive” reviews of divisional reserves
  • Develop relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Take ownership of and responsibility for certain client relationships while meeting their needs and concerns. 

What does success look like?

  • A number of years’ experience in the general insurance industry, existing products and competitor products
  • Knowledge of the application of all standard actuarial techniques used in general insurance
  • The ability to analyse, interpret and extrapolate data from many sources and resolve complex issues
  • The ability to communicate verbally and in writing complicated concepts in a simple, professional manner
  • A degree in a mathematically focused area.
