Manager - Analytics and Portfolio Intelligence, Portfolio Solutions

Your contribution at AIG:

As a leader, you are respected for your deep technical expertise and/or ability to oversee programs and processes.  You balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, making sound decisions using data, analysis, experience, and judgment, along with a risk mindset. Ultimately, you take ownership for key outcomes.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities 

Portfolio analytics and intelligence:

  • Provide regular portfolio analytics and insights to the SME package underwriting team and to the MGA underwriting account managers – including production analysis, loss ratio development and identification of trends
  • Apply segmentation techniques to identify and understand the key profit drivers underpinning each portfolio
  • Develop early warning signals to enable overall portfolio adjustment
  • Identify pricing opportunities within each segment to optimise profitability.

Management Information System (MIS) and reporting:

  • Manage the portfolio management reporting framework including:
    • monthly MIS reporting framework
    • key performance metrics
    • rate monitoring and benchmarking
    • exposure management/aggregate monitoring.
  • Assist the profit centre manager to draft monthly performance management report.

Profitability reviews:

  • Conduct regular profitability reviews of all portfolio solutions portfolios including development of underwriting action plans (as required)
  • Liaison with actuarial function in relation to the annual profit study review process
  • Conduct annual review of all scheme and facility business including recommendations for profitability improvement.

Rating model calibration:

  • In conjunction with national technical/product manager, perform regular reviews of the Transact rating algorithm to recalibrate rating engine to optimise profitability
  • In conjunction with MGA underwriting account managers, conduct regular reviews of all underwriting agency rating engines
  • Develop and maintain rating methodology for natural peril rating (including flood, quake and wind).

Budgeting and forecasting:

  • Assist the profit centre manager (PCM) with annual budgeting process and with monthly/quarterly reforecasting 
  • Liaison with local and regional/global actuarial and finance on IBNR/IBNER provisions, expense allocations, catastrophe allowance (AAL) and loss adjusted allocations (ULAE).

Miscellaneous portfolio management duties:

  • Assist with other miscellaneous portfolio management tasks including:
    • reinsurance modelling
    • ESL modelling
    • Underwriting agency (MGA) profit share modelling and monitoring.

What we are looking for:

Professional/technical skills and experience:

  • Atleast 10 years’ general insurance experience
  • Proven experience within a similar role and industry
  • Strong technical pricing knowledge of general insurance including GLM
  • Sound understanding of natural catastrophe (NATCAT) modelling and ability to interpret NATCAT modelling results in underwriting and product design 
  • Strong financial statement (P&L) understanding - including deep understanding of insurance profit drivers
  • Appropriate tertiary degree in mathematics, finance or commerce – actuarial background an advantage
  • ANZIIF insurance qualification or equivalent highly desirable.
