Key accountabilities/responsibilities:

1. Program management:

- Underwriting agency (MGA) program management:

  • P&L responsibility for all allocated underwriting agency (MGA) portfolios
  • Responsible for successful management of the underwriting agency (MGA) relationship/partnership.

 - Authority setting:

  • In conjunction with profit centre manager, responsible for setting delegated underwriting authority for each underwriting agency (MGA)
  • Responsible for implementation and maintenance of all contractual documentation including binding authority and delegated underwriting authority.

 - Underwriting risk and compliance:

  • Responsible for ensuring an underwriting peer review process is implemented and operating effectively for all allocated underwriting agencies (MGAs)
  • Responsible for ensuring that an annual underwriting audit is conducted including implementation of all recommendations
  • Responsible for co-ordination of all functional reviews and audits including claims, finance, IT and operations.

- Operational framework:

  • Responsible for implementation of an appropriate operational framework for each underwriting agency (MGA) including all systems and procedures
  • Responsible for co-ordination of all functional areas required to engage with underwriting agency (MGA) partners including claims, operations, IT, finance, risk and compliance.

2. Underwriting management:

- Underwriting manuals and rating guidelines:

  • In conjunction with national product/technical manager, responsible for the development and maintenance of underwriting manuals and rating guidelines for all allocated underwriting agencies (MGAs). 

- Underwriting referrals:

  • Responsible for referral underwriting, adhering to authorised underwriting guidelines and underwriting standards – including internal liaison with AIG subject-matter experts for large/complex risks.

- Product development:

  • Responsible for identification and stewardship of the product development process for all new products or existing products upgrades including adherence to the AIG product development framework
  • Responsible for co-ordination of all required AIG product development approvals including underwriting, legal, risk, claims, etc. 

- Portfolio management and monitoring:

  • In conjunction with the manager, analytics and portfolio intelligence, responsible for implementing and maintenance of a robust portfolio management and monitoring framework for each allocated underwriting agency (MGA)
  • In conjunction with the manager, analytics and portfolio intelligence, responsible for conducting regular profitability reviews including development of underwriting actions plans (as required).

What we are looking for:

Professional/technical skills and experience:

  • More than 10 years’ general insurance experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial underwriting including property and liability lines
  • Strong financial statement (P&L) understanding  - including deep understanding of insurance profit drivers
  • ANZIIF insurance qualification or equivalent and/or an appropriate tertiary degree.

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills – particularly collaboration and engagement skills
  • Excellent communication skills – including written and verbal/presentation skills
  • Willingness and desire to learn.
