About the role

SwissRe is looking for a recognised leader in Casualty Underwriting for its Casualty and FinPro team in Australia. This position will suit someone with broad experience and well established international and local broker connections in the Australasian insurance market. The core focus is on contributing to the result-orientated casualty book of business and continue to build our Australasian portfolio.

In your role as Senior Casualty Underwriter you will technically assess and underwrite business in accordance with the business' profitability targets, best practice, underwriting guidelines and processes as well as lead the development of innovative products. You will work collaboratively within the wider underwriting team and other relevant stakeholders in the group (Products/Risk Engineering/Claims Management/Actuaries).

About the team

The Australian Swiss Re Corporate Solutions business comprises of approximately 40 people, focusing predominantly on general insurance with offices located in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Casualty and FinPro team of four people has remit across Australian and New Zealand markets.

This role has global responsibilities and the team come from a diverse range of backgrounds, so you should be comfortable working in a truly international and multicultural environment.

About You

You will require:

  • Extensive experience in underwriting casualty risks
  • Highest level of underwriting acumen with a strong knowledge of risk exposures, wordings and pricing adequacy, including numerical analysis and an understanding of actuarial analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically manage portfolios
  • Ability to manage to deadlines without sacrificing the quality of underwriting
  • Demonstrated new business development skills
  • Demonstrated broker and client relationship management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across different functions, levels and locations within the organisation
  • Willingness to travel within Australia and worldwide
